Presiding Bishop Michael B. Curry Receives Hobart Medal of Excellence
On Friday, 4 November 2016 I returned to Hobart College in Geneva, NY, my Alma Mater, to participate in the President’s Forum of Hobart and William Smith Colleges. Our beloved Michael Curry, the 27th Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church of the United States, was awarded The Hobart Medal of Excellence, the Alumni Association’s highest honor. The award was a special event for me because Bishop Michael and I were in the same class (1975) at Hobart. However, the real joy of the evening came when Bishop Curry spoke—preached—in his powerful style!
Bishop Curry is an exceptional preacher; he had the diverse audience gasping and laughing simultaneously. Bishop Curry’s delivery is so dynamic and invigorating that his well-chosen words resonate in the soul.
After his talk, Bishop Curry warmly and thoughtfully handled profound questions from the audience. Many of the questions came from current college students, and Bishop Curry’s responses to them were especially wise and encouraging.
I am very glad that I attended this event, and I wrote this article to celebrate Bishop Curry and implore you to attend his coming visit to Buffalo.
