Jim Eaton Summer Reading Program Now Underway!
The Jim Eaton Summer Reading Program has begun its second year with a new age range and new location. Taking the valuable lessons from last year, the Eaton Summer Reading Program made some changes for 2016, including a new location in the city of Buffalo (The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, located in north Buffalo) and a narrower age range (Kindergarten through 1st grade). The location is perfect as Good Shepherd is located around the corner from our primary feeder school, The George E. Blackman School of Excellence (Buffalo Public School #54) and is a short walk from Buffalo’s Delaware Park. The age range allows the program volunteers to develop even greater proficiency with the curriculum.
All in all, the adaptations have made this year’s program an even greater success than last year’s. Additionally, we have a much wider range of volunteers working with us, from high school students to grandma and grandpa age people; from teachers to seminarians to priests and deacons! The program runs until mid-August and there is STILL time to volunteer. Contact the Rev. Sare Anuszkiewicz, Program Director at director@eatoncamp.org or call 716-800-1607.

Bishop Bill has visited several times and looks forward to visiting frequently in the coming days.
Besides this diocesan sponsored reading program, we are thrilled that two of our parishes are hosting reading camps as well. St. Paul’s Cathedral is a site for the Say Yes to Education, Buffalo day camp and St. Luke’s in Jamestown is hosting “Children of the Book Reading Camp”. Both camps are experiencing increased enrollment and great results. Watch this space for more pictures from these camps as the Canon for Connections is visiting the Cathedral’s and St. Luke’s camps this coming week!
