Parishes Celebrated Feast of Corpus Christi
The feast of Corpus Christi (Latin for The Body of Christ) is observed on the Thursday after Trinity Sunday. It is a commemoration of and thanksgiving for the Eucharist. It was first observed in Rome in the thirteenth century and spread through the church in Europe through the fourteenth century. St. Thomas Aquinas composed a service and several hymns that are still associated with the feast.
Celebrations traditionally include a procession of a monstrance – usually an ornate vessel that has a circular window through which the consecrated host can be seen.
There were two celebrations of Corpus Christi in the diocese last week. One at St. Andrew’s, Buffalo and the other at St. John the Baptist, Dunkirk. Bishop Franklin participated in the celebration in Dunkirk.
